Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1991 Movie Stars Boxset Appears Then Vanishes

First announced back in December, a boxed set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1991 Movie Stars has appeared on the Target website. It promptly sold out, then vanished without a trace.
The boxset contains 6 figures. They are the main turtles, Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael. They are joined by Splinter and a version of Super Shredder.
Each figure is based on characters from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1991 wave of action figures. Each individual figure is provided in a blister pack, and these come wrapped up in a display box with a design based on the Turtle’s lair.
When news of this box broke back in December, many speculated that it would be a Target exclusive. Today, customers were reporting that it had appeared on the website then sold out immediately. It has now vanished from searches and is not on the Playmates website.
This release follows a slew of retro re-releases, that has covered everything from He-Man to Thundercats. With the price of original items soaring, a market has opened up for ‘retro play’ style action figures. They recreate the look and feel of the original toys, even down to the identical packaging.
These figures are copies of the 1991 wave of Turtle figures released to coincide with their second movie, The Secret of the Ooze. They had already had a hit the previous year with their first feature film. The individual packaging retains this movie aesthetic, with Shredder looking the most like his beefed-up, cinema persona.
So far, there is no news on if and when this item will be available in the UK.
